Profile
Dr. Jung’s innovation that merited this award is the Data to Science (D2S) platform available at Data to Science.

Dr. Jinha Jung is an Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Purdue University, where he conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of geomatics, remote sensing, and computational science. He earned his Ph.D. in Geomatics–Civil Engineering with a specialization in Computational Science and Engineering from Purdue University in 2011. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Jung served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Purdue University, and later joined Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi as a faculty member in 2014. He returned to Purdue University in 2019 to continue his academic and research career.

Dr. Jung’s research focuses on developing advanced sensing and data analytics technologies for large-scale environmental and agricultural applications. He is widely recognized for his pioneering work on uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS)-based high-throughput phenotyping systems that enable efficient and precise agricultural monitoring. His research includes developing novel algorithms for processing and analyzing UAS data, with particular emphasis on feature extraction, vegetation characterization, and spatial analysis.

A key component of Dr. Jung’s work is the integration of hyperspectral imagery and full-waveform LiDAR data to enhance vegetation structural analysis and environmental modeling. He also actively integrates high-performance computing techniques to accelerate the development of advanced remote sensing algorithms. In addition, Dr. Jung contributes to the design and implementation of WebGIS platforms using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), promoting accessible and scalable geospatial solutions. Through his research, teaching, and service, Dr. Jung continues to advance data-driven approaches for sustainable infrastructure, agriculture, and environmental systems.
